Whether you live in or are visiting the Bay Area, you’ll think about parks in a whole new way. I’ve just begun the national tour to promote “Nancercize: 101 Things to Do on a Park Bench,” and I couldn’t have found a more perfect place to begin than the Bay Area. Join me as I explore a surprisingly large lake near downtown Oakland, a soothing pond in Marin, and a gorgeous reservoir park in Lafayette. There’s never no place to be active.

School is out for summer, and that means many of your local school playgrounds will be sitting unused for the next couple of months. That’s good news for you, because the school playground is a great place to work out. From the swings to the monkey bars, there are lots of ways you can use the standard equipment at the school playground to tone up. You can use monkey bars for chin ups or just practice climbing them back and forth to build upper body strength.

People who want to get fitter and healthier often ask me, “But Nancy, how do I get started? “ This is a great question, and an important one because the last thing you want to do is let an injury discourage you – or stop you dead in your tracks.

Tick tock! Time is a precious commodity, and so you want to make the most of it. That having been said, the short answer to the question of when is the best time to exercise is: in the morning, in the late afternoon, and whenever you have time.
