I LOVE to ramble around outdoors with my friends.

This fall, I’ll be teaching 10 classes a week in 4 NYC Parks. They good news is that they all take advantage of the feel-good benefits of being outdoors in nature–and they are all FREE! Thanks to the generosity of our funders: the Fort Tryon Park Trust, the City Parks Foundation, and the Friends of Morningside Park/Partnerships for a Healthier New York.  Whew!  No special equipment or mats needed. Just wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Backpacks are more convenient than other bags to carry around as we make our way through these parks. Note that heavy rain cancels these classes.   • Morning Fitness (all levels and ages welcome)

Fort Tryon Park, northern Manhattan (all year-round except in terrible weather such as temperature below 20 degrees F)

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 7:30 – 8:30 AM

Saturdays: 8:30 – 9:30 AM

Meet at the entrance to Fort Tryon Park on Fort Washington Ave, near the Circle.

This is the class I’ve been teaching since 2003! Stretching and strengthening exercises spice up a brisk walk encompassing the entire hilly 67-acre park with amazing vistas of the Hudson River.

 

  • Green Gym (all ages and levels are welcome)

Morningside Park, Harlem (September 14-November 13, 2015)

Mondays and Fridays: 7:00 – 7:45 AM — Morning Fitness

Wednesdays: 1:00 – 1:45 PM — Lunchtime Fitness

Meet at W. 112th St. Fieldhouse

Last year I created the Morningside Park Green Gym Program maps and banners, transforming the entire park into a big green gym. Join us for the mornings or the lunchtime classes, each consisting of the 12 stretching and strengthening exercises described on the map and banners already installed in the park.

 

  • Yoga Walkabout for Seniors (60+)

Inwood Hill Park, northern Manhattan (Sept. 21- Oct. 31)

Mondays and Wednesdays 11:00 Am- 12 noon

Meet at the flagpole near the Isham/Seaman Street entrance to the park.

This program is back by popular demand! We walk through gorgeous forested Inwood Hill Park, pausing to use the benches as our yoga props, making yoga poses easier and safer than doing them on the ground.

 

  • Yoga Walkabout for Seniors (60+)

Thomas Jefferson Park, East Harlem (Sept. 21- Oct. 31)

Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:30 – 11:30 AM.

Meet outside at the Recreation Center entrance.

This program is new to this park. As we walk through historic Thomas Jefferson Park, we pause to use the benches and railings as our yoga props, making yoga poses easier and safer than doing them on the ground.
