You say the hotel fitness center is too crowded? You say it doesn’t have much in the way of equipment? What? There isn’t a fitness center? No problem. Just ask the staff to point you to the nearest park, plaza, trail, or riverside walk.

And then get out and explore. Don’t forget to invite your traveling companion or business associates (see my post, Buddy Up). You’re also most sure to find a bench along the way to add some Nancercizes to make things even more interesting and impress your companions. Remember, Nancercize only requires gravity and your bodyweight–you don’t need to schlep (and forget) any exercise equipment in your luggage—not even exercise bands!

Walking and interacting with the environment in a new location is a great way to get to know the area in a whole new, non-touristy way. Last year, I had the most marvelous time in Salt Lake City, Utah, leading Nancercize classes at 6 AM in City Creek Park, a few blocks from our hotel. The conference goers in my group were charmed by the park itself, and I was awe-struck by the swoosh of the large and powerful creek that ran through it. Next week, I’ll be doing it again in Washington DC. And I can’t wait to check out Rock Creek Park (here we go with the creek again), which is the oldest and largest park in the national park system.

If your trip involves air time, you might have jet lag to deal with. Although exercise might be the last thing on your mind, remember that an outdoor workout can help reset and resynchronize your body clock and reduce your jet lag symptoms. A high intensity cardio workout is usually not on the agenda after a long day of travel, and that’s where the gentler bodyweight Nancercize exercises and stretches come in. Many of these can be done in your hotel room at any time of day—or night!

It’s tempting and easy to let your fitness slide when you travel, whether a lot or a little. With Nancercize bodyweight exercises, it’s easy to keep in shape and keep at your sharpest and most energetic whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure.
